All the World's a Stage

...but you're not the star.

Ouch.

It's not as bad as it sounds. I promise.

Okay, so this can be taken in different connotations. Let's break it down.

1. The Spotlight Effect

- the tendency of an individual to overestimate the extent to which others are paying attention to the individual's appearance and behavior

What does this mean? Sometimes, we think we're receiving more attention than we really are. For me at least, this is reassuring. People won't always notice the little flubs in appearance and movement we tend to make in public situations.

On the other hand, tripping in a public place may cause a stir, most likely causing people to laugh. When the spotlight effect fails you, always have a backup.

For instance, Ellen Degeneres recommends starting a jog whenever you find yourself tripping. It truly works.

As for falling up the stairs...I got nothin'.

Which doesn't bring me to my next point...

2. The World is One Big, Complex Place

Currently, there are about 7.8 billion people living on this here Earth. That's a pretty large stage to share, eh?

Sometimes, we forget the true complexity of life, and expect it to bend to our whims. The truth is, each and every person we come across has a different story from everyone else. Each person was raised differently, had different friends pets, living spaces, and more. It's VERY easy to forget that.

I know I've said this before, but it's never good to assume a person's motivations and thoughts. Ever.

Again, the world is too complicated for one to understand. This applies to even the simplest of human relationships. The bestest friends evar can call the other person's motivation into question without knowing the whole story.

What can we do? We must watch and listen, and then think. Why would that person do that? Could it be because...

I'm sorry for the incoherence of this writing. I'm writing this late at night, so...I don't make much sense to be honest. Stay tuned for more updates, and leave a comment if you'd like me to address something!
